Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the 2019 school
year. This year we welcome almost 60
Prep students to Atherton State School. Today was the very first day of school
for these students. We also inducted
over 50 new students to our school who have transferred in from areas across
Australia. Welcome to Atherton State
School.
Classes
I am aware that some classes
at Atherton State School are quite large at the moment, particularly the Year 1 and 3
cohorts. As per Education Queensland
policy our school staffing, and classes, will not be confirmed until the 8th
day of school this year. Our school will
be staffed for 2019 based on the numbers of children enrolled at the school on
Thursday 7th February 2019.
Once our enrolment is confirmed the school will be able to make further
decisions on class groupings, and if necessary, make any adjustments that may
be required to keep class sizes within the Education Queensland
recommendation. Atherton State School
is still seeking enrolments, therefore if you know of any families that have
not enrolled at a school, or you know of Prep students who have not started at
school, encourage them to visit Atherton State School for an enrolment
interview.
Year 6 Camp
The annual Year 6 camp will be
held at Tinaroo Outdoor Education Centre commencing on 5th to 8th March. This year all year 6 classes will go on camp
together. Students who are not attending
camp will come to school as normal at Atherton State School and will most
likely join the Year 5 classes for the week.
Full payment for the camp is required before childen can attend.
Families are encouraged to make an appointment with our Business Manager
Helen Riley if they wish to create a payment plan. The school would like all year 6 students to
attend the camp therefore if there are any concerns that you may have that
potentially could result in your child not attending the camp please discuss
these with your child’s teacher or the school office.
School Books
It was wonderful to see
students arriving with all their required school books and resources this
morning. This is greatly appreciated by
our teaching staff. If you have not yet purchased
your child’s materials for school please do so as a priority. Many local businesses have quite decent ‘back
to school’ specials on at the moment.
Communication
Atherton
State School utilises a number of platforms to communicate with our school
families and the community. These
platforms are:
- Atherton
State School Facebook page: This page is
updated regularly with messages and reminders for families. Search for Atherton State School and like the
page. Please note – during the day the
Facebook site is occasionally monitored.
For urgent matters families are reminded to contact the school office on
40957333.
- Newsletters: Newsletters are published fortnightly and are
found on our website or our Facebook site. Newsletters are not printed however we can
print copies for you if you wish to receive a printed version. Let the school office know if you wish to
have a printed copy.
- Website: Our school website contains many sources of
information to assist you. www.athertonss.eq.edu.au
Medications
If
your child requires medication throughout the school year the office must be
notified. Almost all medications must be
stored in the school office. Exceptions
to this policy are lifesaving medications such as epi-pens and Ventolin. All medications must have the child’s name
and the correct dosage stuck to the medication.
All pharmacies can provide these stickers for you. For more information contact the office.
Australia Day Public Holiday
A
reminder to families that this Monday 28th January is a public holiday for Australia
Day. School will commence on Tuesday 29th January for the 2019 school year.
