Uniforms are available for purchase from the Tuckshop from Wednesday to Friday between 8.30am and 11:00am.  Volunteers are always welcome to assist with uniform sales, even for very occasional help.

School uniforms

Atherton State School’s uniform policy is endorsed by the school’s P&C. It requires that all students wear an approved school uniform every day. A note from a parent is required when a student is not in correct or complete school uniform explaining why, and when this will be rectified. Atherton State School remains committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for all students each day. We will consider individual circumstances and work with families to find a suitable alternative uniform item for cultural or medical reasons. Requests should be directed to The Principal via the school office. Students attending school dressed with incomplete or incorrect uniforms may receive a notification letter from the Principal to take home to be signed by a parent and returned to school.

The Atherton State School unform was extensively overhauled in 2016, with the new uniform now more heavily focused on a maroon colour.  This is to assist in keeping the uniform tidy from the red dirt in the district.  Older gold style unforms are no longer on sale and are to not be worn to school from 2020 onwards.

Shoes are to be worn to school at all times for safety reasons.  During wet weather, students may be asked to leave their shoes at the classroom door before entering the rooms. This is to keep the school classroom carpets tidy and free from mud and excessive dirt.   Shoes, like all items of clothing, should be clearly labled.

Which uniform to wear when?

It is recommended that the school uniform should be worn for:

  • each school day, unless advised by their teacher due to special school based circumstances (swimming, sports activities etc)
  • education activities, inter-school and inter-house sports days
  • school photo days
  • public appearances, including visits to the school by official visitors
  • school excursions, except when specifically advised otherwise by the teacher.

Children can safely and effectively participate in daily physical activities organised by classroom teachers wearing the school uniform and footwear.

The sports uniform should be worn on Fridays and during inter-house or inter-school sports days.

Uniform supplies

The Uniform Shop is open from Wednesday to Friday from 8:30am to 11:00am.

Once purchased please ensure all items of clothing are clearly labelled with the child’s first and last name. It also recommended that all other student belongings i.e. lunchboxes, drink bottles, pencil cases, school port, hat etc are clearly labelled with the student's first and last name.

School hat

The maroon (yellow for Prep aged students) broad-brimmed school hat is to be worn at all times when students are out of doors, including:
  • travelling to and from school
  • during morning tea and lunch breaks
  • when running messages in the sun e.g. on the oval
  • when away from school on excursions
  • during sport or physical education activities.

The school hat is an integral part of the school uniform. Baseball caps or other hats without wide brims are unacceptable. We are a 'Sunsafe School' so the ‘No Hat No Play' rule applies to all students.
