An application was made for the establishment of a Provisional School at Atherton on the 25th August, 1890. Twenty children were expected to attend.
The school was ready on the 3rd February, 1891. "The House" was 16' by 24', with 12 ft. walls, built of sawn cedar with an iron roof. The desks and forms were built to scale. John Samuel Driver was appointed as the first teacher.

There were 86 high school students and 562 Primary Students in 1956, another option was required. The current Manual Training block was officially opened as the High School in 1959.
The school out grew the Mabel Street campus. Stage 1 of the Armstrong Street campus was built in 1983. Years 5, 6 and 7 moved to the new school in 1984. Years 1, 2, 3 and 4 moved in 1985 with the completion of Stage 2 of the new school.
